This is an exciting and ambitious local project that can have real impact on the community of Oak Park, IL. This show features only local community news featuring the people who run the village. She talks to local artists, activists, business people, shop keepers, religious leaders and academics. The show also talks to average people.
Davenport, has an impressive resume. She seems to be a marketing and promotions expert. She was the district manager of marketing and public relations for former Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown in the Minority Enterprise Growth Assistance (MEGA) Program. She has also been director of international trade for the PUSH Coalition's Trade Bureau, and the deputy campaign manager for Governor Pat Quinn. She also did lobbying work as a liaison to the Illinois Senate.
She grew up in a family that emphasized civic responsibility. Her volunteer activities is a career by itself. She firmly believes that if you want and expect change, that you are responsible yourself to make it happen. She is actively seeking advertisers, sponsors and partners to help the show grow.
Her co-host Wyman, is 87, years old. He has been the past president of the VMA and served in 12 election campaigns. He has also volunteered with the Housing Forward and the CROP Walk. "I think I bring a sense of history and some wisdom to the program," he said.
"The Doris Davenport Show" has an internship program that gives students exposure and training in broadcasting. People are currently involved in the program.
