Takara Beathea Gudell Is an established fashion designer that has established herself in the Oak Park Arts District to sell her clothing and accessories. She has come back here because she says "I'm an artist at heart."
She has a long history of design. She worked with Ebony and Spiegel in the 90s on a fashion catalogue titled Estyle.. She is inspired by origami and her clothing is architectural and designed to be layered. People have always said "once you go custom, you never go back." Beathea Gudell has sold her fashon to boutiques across the U.S. and Canada. She was also the 1st African American woman to be featured on the cover of Crain's Chicago Business. She used to sell her jewelry to major department stores like Nordstrom, I. Magnum and Marshall Field. She later found her apparel niche by designing and producing the Takara top. Something that is still available in her store. That top began her career as an apparel designer. After that success she opened shops in both Chicago and then in Oak Park on Harrison Street. She is the kind of person who epitomizes the small business mentality of Oak Park.
