Kinslahger, Many people have asked about the origins of the name. In fact, Kinslahger is a mash up of two words that are central to the ethos of their business. Kinship, representing a connection with other people, and Lager, the focus of their brewing. A tweak was added to the spelling of lager with an H, this incorporates the first letter of the last name of each of the three founding partners. Hence Kins-LAH-ger!
When the founder Steve Loranz left his job in software, he followed his heart and knew exactly what he wanted to try next. He was a home brewer for a decade when he met Keith Huizinga and Neal Armstrong through the Oak Park Homebrewers Club and a radical idea was cooked up.
Visit them in their tasting room to enjoy beer at its freshest. Along with the flagship beers, they offer a rotating selection of small batch seasonal and experimental brews, nitrogen coffee, house made sodas and shrubs, and artisanal snacks.
Just behind the taproom's wall sit four eight-barrel tanks and two 20-barrel tanks. A few one-barrel tanks will brew small-batch beers for the taproom, while the larger tanks will brew for distribution. "Things cooked up in the taproom may become flagships," Loranz said. "We wanted the taproom for people to come sample some very small-batch beers." "The goal is that when we're fully up, capacity-wise, 90 percent of that beer will go out the back door to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, liquor stores, etc."They are a BYOF establishment, so if you are looking for something more substantial than their snacks, feel free to carry-in or order from the many restaurants close by.
They do not accept cash payments but happily accept all major credit and debit cards along with Apple Pay. Tipping is discouraged as they have taken the responsibility to pay their staff a fair wage.
